CHIEF MINISTER’S GIRL CHILD PROTECTION SCHEME
- It is an incentive scheme
- Introduced in 1992
OBJECTIVE
- Small Family norms – encourage (2 girl children)
- Protect the rights of girl child ( provide social and financial empowerment)
- Strengthen the family role – improve status of girl child
- Promote enrolment and retention of girl child in school (atleast upto Secondary school)
- Encourage girls to get married after 18 years age
TYPES OF SCHEMES
- Scheme I – Single girl child – ₹50000 (Initial Deposit)
- Scheme II – Two girl Children – ₹25000 each
CRITERIA TO ENROLL
- Family – one/two girl child – no male children (no adoption too)
- Either of the parents – Sterilization (within 35years of age)
- Parents – Domicile of Tamilnadu – Period: 10 years
- Annual Family Income: less than ₹72000
- Application Submission: Under Scheme I : before completion of 3 years, Under Scheme II : before second child completes 3years of age
- If more than one child in single birth – beniffited under Scheme II
DETAILS OF FINAL MATURITY
- Amount deposited in girl child name
- Under Tamilnadu Power Finance and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited
- In Specially designed monthly cumulative interest payment scheme
- Deposit renewed every 5 years
- On completion of 18 years – Amount + Interest – given as Maturity amount
- To get this, Girl child should appear 10th Standard Public Exam
- Maturity amount – to pursue higher education
Till March 2019 – 9,49,542 beneficiaries
Total amount deposited – ₹1462.75 crores
Budget Allocation: ₹140.11 Crore in 2019-20
