TNPSC GROUP 2 MAINS PREPARATION 2020
- This is the revised scheme of examination that was recently released in 2019.
- This is applicable for both TNPSC Group 2 Interview and Non Interview posts.
- For Interview posts, we have both Mains and Oral Test and for Non-Interview posts, we have only Mains.
- But the procedure for selection of candidates is still not released by TNPSC.
SCHEME FOR MAIN WRITTEN EXAMINATION
PAPER 1
- It will be in SSLC standard
- One hour and 30 minutes will be the duration of Paper 1
- Total marks for Paper 1 is 100 marks
- Minimum qualifying marks will be 25
- Of any candidate fails to secure this minimum qualifying mark, then that candidate’s Paper 2 will not be evaluated
- It has two translation Sections
1. Tamil to English Translation
2. English to Tamil Translation
- From each section, two questions will be asked
- Each question carry 25 marks
- For each section, 50 marks can be secured
- So totally 2×50=100 marks for Paper 1
- This Paper 1 is just qualifying paper
- This mark will not be considered for final evaluation
PAPER 2
- It will be in Degree standard
- Three hours will be the duration of the exam
- This paper has been answered either in Tamil or in English alone
- Should not write in both the language (especially thirukural essay)
- Total marks will be 300. This 300 marks will be considered for the selection process (mains marks)
- There are five sections in it.
1. Precise writing
2. Comprehension
3. Hints development
4. Essay writing on Thirukural
5. Official Letter writing
PRECISE WRITING
- 3 questions are asked in precise writing
- Each question carry 20 marks
- Totally 20×3=60 marks
- In this, a paragraph will be given
- We have to read the paragraph and need to understand the core concept of it
- Without any change in the content, we need to precise (shorten) the entire paragraph
- No data or information should be changed
- This is one of the important skill in writing practice

COMPREHENSION
- 3 questions are asked in Reading comprehension
- Each question carry 20 marks
- Totally 20×3=60 marks
- In this, a large paragraph will be provided
- We need to read that paragraph with the utmost care
- After understanding the entire para concepts, we need to answer the questions given below
- Maybe five questions will be provided with or without options

HINTS DEVELOPMENT
- 3 questions will be asked in Hints Development
- Each question carry 20 marks
- Totally 20×3=60 marks
- For this, small hints will be provided
- We need to elaborate the given hints and want to make that as a complete paragraph with correct meaning
- We need to use all the hints given by them and develop the hints along with our own studied data

ESSAY WRITING ON THIRUKURAL
- This is one of the important and tougher sections in the entire part 2
- 3 questions will be asked in Essay writing on Thirukural
- Each question carry 20 marks
- Totally 20×3=60 marks
- This section has to be answered either in Tamil or English (all the sections in any one language)
- Especially Thirukural should be written in Tamil or in English
- We cannot write Thirukural in Tamil and explanation in English (major doubt for many aspirants)

OFFICIAL LETTER WRITING
- 3 questions are asked in Letter Writing
- Each question carry 20 marks
- Totally 20×3=60 marks
- This is the most important area that every aspirants have to master it
- This is included since many government servants struggle to write this
- Have to write in Tamil or English with proper From, To, Subject, Content
