1. Vienna to host INTERPOL General Assembly in 2023:
- The 91st INTERPOL General Assembly will take place in Vienna, Austria in 2023.
- The 90th General Assembly was held in New Delhi from the 18th to the 21st of October 2022.
- The General Assembly is INTERPOL’s supreme governing body and meets once a year to take key decisions related to its functioning.
- INTERPOL was founded in 1923 in Vienna.
- HQ: Lyon, France
2. Anna May Wong – appears on US currency:
- First Asian American to appear on US currency.
- Wong’s image has been imprinted on quarter dollars as part of the American Women Quarters Program, which highlights female pioneers on coins.
- Recognized as Hollywood’s first Asian American movie star, she acted in over 60 films across a decades-long career.
3. SAMRIDDHI – Property tax amnesty scheme in Delhi:
- SAMRIDDHI – Strengthening and Augmentation of Municipal Revenue for Infrastructure Development in Delhi.
- It is a one-time property tax amnesty scheme.
- Under the scheme, residential property owners can pay just the principal property tax amount of the current and of the past 5 years.
4. 26th October – Accession Day of J&K with Union of India:
- It was on this day in 1947 the then Maharaja of Jammu and Kashmir, Hari Singh signed the Instrument of Accession to become part of India.
- The day became an official public holiday in J&K for the first time in 2020 after the abrogation of articles 370 and 35A on 5th August 2019.
5. NASA’s Dragonfly is set to land on Saturn’s Moon Titan:
- The launch of Dragonfly marks NASA’s first multirotor vehicle for science on another planet.
- The dragonfly mission will fly multiple stories to sample and examine sites around Titan, the icy moon of Saturn and look for prebiotic chemical processes common on both Titan and Earth.
About Titan:
- It has a Nitrogen-based atmosphere like Earth. Unlike Earth, Titan has clouds and rain of methane.
- Titan is larger than the planet Mercury and is the second-largest moon in the solar system.
- Titan orbits around Saturn and is about 886 million miles (1.4 billion kilometres) away from the Sun, about 10 times farther than Earth.
- Its surface pressure is also 50 per cent higher than Earth’s.
Note:
- Ganymede, the satellite of Jupiter, is the largest and most massive of the solar system’s moons.
- Dragonfly was selected as part of the agency’s New Frontiers program, which includes the New Horizons mission to Pluto and the Kuiper Belt, the Juno Mission to Jupiter, and OSIRIS-REx to the asteroid Bennu.
6. World Sustainability Day 2022:
- Observed on the 4th Wednesday of October
- This year the day marks the 26th of October.
- To raise awareness of the value of environmental protection.
